Homemade fries from the oven

Homemade oven fries are the easiest option and you only need three ingredients for them. The great advantage of the oven is that your fries are prepared with only a little fat and are therefore particularly low in calories compared to their deep-fried relatives. So if you’re watching your figure but still don’t want to miss out on those delicious potato sticks, this easy recipe is for you.

By the way, when you cook your fries in the oven, you should pay attention to the temperature to reduce the formation of the harmful acrylamide.

For the fries

For the fries

  • 500 g potatoes (waxy / mainly waxy)
  • 5 tablespoons oil (sunflower oil / canola oil)
  • Salt

Useful utensils

  • Peeler
  • Bowl
  • Baking tray
  • French fries cutter
1
Wash potatoes thoroughly, peel if necessary, and cut into chips about 1 to 1.5 cm thick. Preheat the oven to 200 °C (convection oven: 180 °C, gas: level 3).
2
Place the raw fries in a large bowl, cover with cold water and drain the water immediately. Then cover the fries with water again and let stand for 15 to 20 minutes. Drain the water and pat the fries thoroughly dry with a kitchen towel. The drier your fries, the better the result later.
3
Place the dry chips in a large bowl and mix through with a generous amount of sunflower or canola oil. They should be covered with oil on all sides. Spread the fries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
4
Bake the fries for 50 minutes on the middle rack, turning the tray in between and flipping the fries so they brown evenly. Line a large bowl with paper towels and place the fries in it. Salt generously. Ready are your homemade fries from the oven!
Tip / Note:

Homemade oven fries aren’t quite as crispy as their deep-fried cousins, but they are much healthier. Due to the lower amount of fat, they also contain significantly fewer calories.
