For homemade mulled wine

For your mulled wine, you should go for a strong, fruity but not too woody red wine. Avoid cheap wines from discount stores and rather go for an artisanal wine in the basic segment between 6.00 and 9.00 euros a bottle.
Mulled wine should never be heated above 70 to 75 °C. The alcohol contained in the mulled wine evaporates at around 78 °C and some of the spices also suffer from excessive heat and release bitter substances into the mulled wine.
