The Cosmopolitan is one of the modern classics among cocktails and has a close relationship to sours. In its original form, the cocktail has existed since the mid-1930s. 4
Using the julep strainer, strain the drink through a fine sieve into the pre-chilled(!) martini glass and garnish with a slice or zest of lime. Your homemade Cosmopolitan is ready.

The Cosmopolitan Cocktail: A timeless classic

The Cosmopolitan cocktail, also affectionately known as “Cosmo”, is a refreshing and elegant cocktail that has become an icon of cocktail culture over the years. In this paper, we will delve deeper into the history, ingredients, variations, and cultural significance of the Cosmopolitan.

The history of Cosmopolitan

The origin of the Cosmopolitan is disputed, and various sources trace the cocktail’s origins to different people and places. Here are some of the most popular theories:

Prohibition: One of the earliest versions of Cosmopolitan dates back to the 1920s, during Prohibition in the United States. During this time, many cocktails were created to mask the taste of the often low-quality, illegally produced alcohol.

The 1970s: Another theory is that the Cosmopolitan was invented in the 1970s by a bartender named Neal Murray in Minneapolis. Murray’s version of the cocktail consisted of vodka*, triple sec*, rose lemonade and a splash of lime juice.

The 1980s: The most famous version of the Cosmopolitan today was reportedly created in the 1980s by a bartender named Toby Cecchini at the Odeon Bar in New York City. Cecchini developed a modern variation of the cocktail by adding cranberry juice and replacing the rose lemonade with Cointreau.
