Tips and tricks for your Old Fashioned
Old Fashioned is all about the whiskey used. The other ingredients are designed to enhance and mitigate the strengths and weaknesses of the spirit. For example, if you use a softer whiskey, you can reduce the amount of sugar slightly.
The right whiskey
In many bars, unfortunately, you get it with the usual bourbons, whose brands need not be mentioned here. Taste-wise, they don’t do the cocktail much good, which is why you should rather reach for whiskeys that are one price range higher.
Between 30 and 40 euros, you’ll find far more exciting bottles that will take your drink to a whole other level.
By the way, don’t limit yourself to just bourbon or rye, try your Old Fashioned with Scotch or a smoky Laphroaig instead.
Bitters – experimentation pays off
Experimentation is also rewarded in the bitters. Just try Chocolate or Orange Bitters and give your drink your very own signature.
