However, you should make sure that it is really freshly squeezed must, because it starts to ferment quickly and can contain alcohol. Therefore, if you want to prepare your mulled cider for children, you can use regular apple juice. However, for the best possible taste, the naturally cloudy variety is recommended. These are not filtered and therefore contain significantly more aroma than their clear relatives.

Use spices instead of chai!

In many recipes chai tea is taken for the preparation of mulled cider. Personally, however, I recommend reaching into the spice rack at home. This way you know exactly what ends up in your cup and can control the taste much easier. Too much star anise? Then just leave it out. You prefer your mulled cider with a little fire? Then add one or two pimento seeds or crushed ginger to the pot next time. However, if you have a favorite shai that you can’t get enough of anyway, you can steep 2 tea bags (per liter) in your mulled cider for 10 to 15 minutes after boiling. Don’t forget to take the bags out again, though, so your delicious mulled cider doesn’t turn bitter.

Calvados, gin or rum – mulled cider with shot

As a non-alcoholic alternative to mulled wine or Jagertee, hot cider already cuts a brilliant figure. However, mulled cider is also perfect for spicing up with various spirits. It is guaranteed to be a crowd pleaser at the upcoming Christmas party or on New Year’s Eve. Calvados is particularly suitable for this purpose. The apple brandy supports the natural aroma of the drink and adds some spicy flavors.

[amazon bestseller=”calvados” star_rating=”none” items=”3″ template=”table” ]

True gin fans, of course, resort to this. London Dry Gins with a dominant juniper aroma are particularly recommended here. Expensive gins with subtle botanicals are less suitable for spicing up your mulled cider, as their elegant flavors would be masked by the spices and inherent flavor of the cider.

[amazon bestseller=”gin” star_rating=”none” items=”3″ template=”table” ]

Rum lovers can also turn to their favorite spirit to add a special touch to hot cider. Its exotic flavors give your mulled cider recipe an almost Caribbean flair. Perfect for those who want to escape to a tropical island on cold winter days.

[amazon bestseller=”rum” star_rating=”none” items=”3″ template=”table” ]

Glühost is the non-alcoholic alternative for those who want to avoid alcohol during the cold season.
